New boxes for this new Citrus Season
Entering the 4th citrus season with an even greater portfolio of box configurations
In Spain, October each year marks the start of each year’s citrus season. Through the Mediterranean coast down to Murcia and Andalucía, citrus fruit harvest begins with different varieties of mandarins, followed by oranges and lemon.
Obeikanmdf this year marks the 4th consecutive Spanish citrus season with strongly growing sales. Year by year our boxes have increased popularity, so far more the doubling sales each year. This great progress is first of all is a good signal of our customers’ success, most of whom managed to use the premium image of Obeikanmdf packaging system’s high value perception attribute to reflect on the premium quality of the products packed and achieving higher prices on the markets than competitors with less appealing packaging formats.
Equally important has been the expansion of packaging formats. In the first year of Obeikanmdf, in 2008, there’s been one format offered to our customers, namely the 20x30x10 classical “pitufo” box for the packaging of 2.3 kg clementines.
Now, in 2011, we are offering a wide variety of packaging formats with over 50 references ranging from 20x20 x 5 cm small boxes through 20x30 base dimension boxes with various height, 30x40 base boxes which are europallet modulars and thus particularly interesting for the German market, up to 50x30 cm base larger formats for packaging up to 10kgs of citrus fruits.
Another important development has been the adaptation of our packaging system to automatic packaging lines. The first models of Obeikanmdf boxes were suitable to build strong pallets of products by the means of hand palletizing. In 2010 we’ve test launched and during 2011 we have widely commercialized an solution of “boxes with shoulders” enabling automatic palletizing machines to handle the boxes and run Obeikan boxes through the same fully automated fruit packaging lines that are used with other packaging alternatives.
